Text: 1 Kings 12:1-24
Solomon is dead, and his son, Rehoboam, becomes King of Israel. The old, wise men advised Rehoboam to be gentler than his father, to serve the people, and the people would serve him faithfully. The king then sought out the counsel of his fellow youth and they advised him to be stronger, to put a heavier burden on the people. The new King liked what the young men advised him and he followed their counsel. The result was that the ten tribes of northern Israel broke away from Judah and followed Jeroboam.

However, because of Solomon’s sin, this division was the plan of Yahweh (v.15; 1 King.11:29-31).
The kings of men can never accomplish what God requires. In fact, it is impossible, because all men have a sin nature. God gave Solomon all the necessary wisdom, and Solomon brought folly to his son and division to the Kingdom. The only One who can build God’s Kingdom and care for God’s people is God Himself. Jesus is surely and steadily building the Kingdom. And to the Kingdom citizens, Jesus is a gentle Shepherd, whose yoke is light. Serving King Jesus is a joy. As you celebrate Easter today, remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (ps.16:10). The tomb is empty, He is risen indeed! (Luk. 24:6). Let Him be your Saviour and Lord! One day we will gather around His throne and shout His praises with hearts of love and gratitude.

Meditate on verse 7. How are you going to apply it to your life?
My heavenly Father, teach me to always remember and rejoice because my King lives! Gift me with humility of the resurrected Lord as I serve Your people.

In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
