Text: Psalm 79:1-13
This lamentation Psalm was most likely due to King Nebuchadnezzar’s demolition of the Temple in B.C. 586. (cf Ps 74), 2 Kings 25:8-21, Lam. 1-5. This
Psalm contains prayer for the nation, curses towards the enemies of children of God and praises and worshipping God for His forthcoming actions. The writer laments for how long God will be angry with His children (v. 5). Later he asks God to intervene in the situation for His name’s sake (v. 9). This was out of a belief that a conquered nation equated to the conquest of her god. This means that as a child of God when you yield to sin, then the devil has conquered. This is terrible! Resist the devil under the banner of Christ and he will flee from you!
Meditate on verse 9. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we worship You for You are God of our salvation. Deliver us and forgive us our sins for Your name’s sake. Amen.
