Asaph wrote this Psalm to teach the children how God had been gracious to their ancestors’ sin and ingratitude. He hoped that on learning their nation’s history they would not be as rebellious as their ancestors. These children’s parents’ hearts were not steadfast with God and they were not faithful to His covenant (v. 37). Yet God was full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them (v. 38).
As you study the Word of God, apply it to your life so that where need arises you can change the course of the path set out by your parents. This is only possible when you receive and believe in Jesus Christ.
Meditate on verse 38. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, have compassion on this nation and forgive our iniquity. Amen.
