Text: Jonah 2:1-10.
Jonah’s prayer to God was a prayer of thanksgiving and not for deliverance (vv. 2-9). Jonah was delivered in a miraculous manner and is therefore thanking God for not drowning. His response to God’s punishment is framed into thanksgiving.
Jonah condemns those who put their trust in idols, somehow remembering the foolish prayers of sailors in the ship (v.10). The situation made Jonah admit that indeed salvation belongs to the Lord (v. 9). By God’s grace, the fish that God had designed as a weapon of death became God’s tool for deliverance (v.10).
Meditate on verses 8-9. How are you going to apply them to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I choose to worship You alone, for salvation belongs to You only. Amen.
