Text: Numbers 24:1-25
The star coming from Jacob refers to the coming of Messiah, Jesus Christ (v.17). It may appear strange for God to use a sorcerer, Balaam, to prophecy the coming of Jesus Christ. However, it should be noted that God is able to use any one even the evil plans of the enemy for His own glory. This does not mean that sorcery is acceptable, the Bible condemns it (Ex.22:18).
The prophecy was fulfilled when the wise men from the east came to Jerusalem with the guidance of a star (Mat.2:2). The wise men could have been familiar with the Old Testament prophecy through interaction with Jews in Babylon. The star itself must have been a supernatural phenomenon (v.9). Jesus Christ calls Himself the bright morning star
(Rev.22:16). In Christ there is no darkness!
Meditate on Mat. 2:11. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, teach me how to worship You in truth and spirit. Amen.
