Text: Ezekiel 29:1-21
This chapter, just like the previous chapter, is a curse from Yahweh against pride.
In Chapter 29 Satan’s pride brought his downfall, and eventually his eternal condemnation. King Nebuchadnezzar also credits himself with building the empire of Babylon (Dan.4:30), and God humbled him also. In this Chapter, Pharaoh credits himself for creating the river Nile (v.9) and thus creating the nation. The Pharaoh thereby proclaims himself to be a god. As a result of his pride, Yahweh will reduce Egypt to the least of all nations (v.15).

All humans are full of pride, and even more so are our leaders, all of whom are to some degree self-serving. So, a redeemer king must be sought from elsewhere, and God is our only option. Jesus Christ, eternal God the Son, took on perfect human nature in order to be the King we need. Jesus is in fact the Creator of all things, and, therefore, the rightful King over all things.

Meditate on verses 15-16. What is God teaching you in these verses? How can you avoid such a situation from befalling you?
Almighty Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, stir up our hearts to speak
against the spirit of pride amongst us, especially our leaders. Amen.
