Text: 1 Chronicles 25:1-31
Worship, the activity of glorifying our Creator and Saviour, is the main purpose of redemption. When God’s people gather together for worship on the Lord’s Day, Sunday, music (instruments and voice) have always been an important part of that necessary element. Indeed, God commands it. Like the fragrance of incense, or like the colours of the High Priests garments and of the Tabernacle/ Temple, music enhances our participation. The teachings of Scripture are essential to our worship. But when music is added to doctrine, it has a unique power to reach into our hearts, to open our souls to receive the truth, and to stir us to worship. We all know what it is like to hear a song that recalls an important memory, and suddenly we are weeping. Music has the same affect in worship. God does not need sights and smells and sounds, so He provided them for our well-being. Secondarily, these things are symbolic of the splendor of how it will be when we are in God’s presence perfectly, fully, eternally, worshipping with all the redeemed from around the world, throughout history.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to develop music that glorifies
