Text: Deuteronomy 26:1-10
In this passage, Moses is instructing the people to give the first portion of their harvests to Yahweh. By that instruction the people are reminded that they were once slaves in Egypt, and they were treated harshly. Yahweh heard their groanings; He brought them out with a mighty hand, even destroying Egypt.
Therefore, the people should be grateful and show their gratitude with their offerings from their labors.
We, too, have been delivered by God’s mighty hand. God the Father put our sins and guilt on Jesus, and Jesus paid our death penalty. That should move us to give back to God generously, at least the tithe, ten percent of our gross income. If you are a business owner, you should also consider tithing your business profits. Do not take credit for profits. What you gain is the blessing of the Lord, and a proper way of showing your dependence on His grace is by giving ten percent of your business profits. This is a direct way of making your work to be worship.
Meditate on verse 6. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me appreciate where You have brought me from. Amen.
