Text: Isaiah 30:1-33
“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the LORD, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit. That they may add sin to sin,” verse 1 (NKJV). When King Hezekiah listened to his advisers to seek help from Egypt, Prophet Isaiah denounced this ill advice. They should have looked to God and trusted Him. They should have asked God’s prophet (Isaiah) instead of turning to Pharaoh in Egypt (v. 2).

For this, the Spirit of God was not with them. By turning to Egypt for help, the  Israelites were rebelling against God for He had warned them never return to Egypt (Deut. 17:16) and is now telling them not to make alliance with Egypt (31:1).

Many times we make our own plans and present them to God for “stamping”, this is not right. In times of trouble we rush to trust people and other things instead of trusting and relying on God’s strength, this annoys Him. In all
situations, let us consult, trust and rely on God for deliverance. Remember you can only access God through His Son, Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Saviour.

Meditate on verse 1. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me always to consult and rely on You only as my refuge. Amen.
