Text: Deuteronomy 19:1-21
The cities of refuge (Levite cities) were introduced to us in the book of Numbers, chapter 35. You should read those details. There were six (6) of these cities, three (3) on the west side of the Jordan river and three (3) on the east side. If a person killed someone accidentally, that person could flee to one of these cities and live there and be safe from someone seeking revenge (vv.1-3).

This is a gracious provision of God that is a picture of God’s grace to us in Jesus Christ. When we flee to Jesus, even though we are guilty, we are protected from God’s judgment against our sin. Jesus already paid our penalty, so if we are in Him, God will not punish us a second time. We are safe. Please, if you do not know whether you are safe from God’s condemnation, receive what Jesus did for you; trust that He died to pay your punishment. If you trust Jesus, you
will be accepted by God. Flee to Jesus, who is the eternal city of refuge.
Meditate on verse 3. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, for He is my strong Rock, my refuge. Amen.
