Text: 1 Kings 17:1-24
God is life! The Kings of the two kingdoms were driving their people further away from God, and deeper into spiritual death. Elijah, a prophet, minister of God’s Word and a preacher of life now enters the story. In the passage we just read, Elijah miraculously provides years of life-giving food to a starving widow and her son. Some time later when the son dies, Elijah brings him back to life. God is showing His people, who are starving and dying spiritually, that His
Word brings life. If the people will listen to God, through His prophet, Yahweh
will bring them back to life, back into a relationship with Himself.
Jesus Christ, who is both Prophet and King, brings life to us. His close disciples
boldly confessed, “You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68), and Jesus
said of Himself, “I am … the life” (John14:6; 5:39-40; 6:35; 11:25-26). Death
means separation from God. If you want life, eternal and abundant life with
God, please trust Jesus to be your Saviour from your damning sin.
Meditate on verse 5. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, I pray that my heart yields to Your Spirit to enable me study and apply Your Word in my life that leads me to eternal life. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
