Text: 1 Samuel 12:1-25

This Chapter is a continuation of the previous Chapter; It is the same event. As part of renewing the Kingdom, Samuel reminded them of his own service to them, of their history, and of how Yahweh had been and was faithful to them, His chosen nation. They ought to confess their sins, return to Yahweh their God, and walk faithfully before Him according to the covenant. Samuel even prayed for a sign, thunder and rain, and God sent it that very moment. This showed that God was listening and approved of the words of Samuel.

We who belong to Christ are also called to this same type of renewal. In fact, every Sunday, the Lord’s Day, when we gather for worship, especially when we partake of the Holy Communion, it is a covenant renewal; we refresh ourselves in our relationship with the Lord. Covenant renewal can be so familiar to us that we are not really thinking about it. Let us all daily and earnestly give thanks to God for His faithfulness to us, and ask Him to give us the grace to walk faithfully before Him. He gave Himself for us. Let us also give ourselves to and live for Him.

Meditate on verse 14. How are you going to apply it to your life?

Almighty and loving Father, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, that you create in me a contrite heart that gives due reverence to Your great name and obeys Your Word. Amen.
