1 Kings 11:1-43
In this Chapter, we read of the sad situation of King Solomon neglecting the gift of wisdom God had given him. As a result, the pleasures of life lured Solomon away from the exclusive, pure worship of Yahweh. His particular sin was having sexual relationship with foreign women. God told His people not to marry foreigners, which means those who do not belong to Yahweh. The reason was, “they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods” (Deut.7:4).

Solomon’s physical adultery led to his spiritual adultery and the eventual breakup of the nation.
Our King Jesus has only one wife. Some say God has two wives –the Jews and the Christians. But there has always been only one wife, one people of God; and that is everyone throughout history who belongs to God’s grace. King Jesus Christ is a perfectly faithful husband; He will never commit adultery or polygamy. That’s also the way it should be for those who belong to King Jesus. Believers should marry only one person (of the opposite sex) and that person must be a Christian (1 Cor.7:39). Be warned, unrepented sin will turn you away from God.

Meditate on verses 1-3. What is God teaching you in these verses? How are you going to respond to them?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, preserve our true testimonies, so that we keep in fellowship with You. Amen.
