Text: 2 Kings 11:1-21
Athaliah, daughter of Israel’s King Ahab, saw an opportunity to become the
monarch of Judah. She murdered all the royal family and took control. It is
interesting to note that, even though she was the daughter of Israel’s king, she was married to the son of a king of Judah. This was a compromising relationship and brought in the worship of the false god, Baal (implied in verse 18). A true descendant of the kings, Jehoash, was hidden, and after seven years, the faithful Priest, Jehoiada, brought out Jehoash, crowned him, and executed Athaliah. Jehoash did what was right, and he reigned for forty years (12:1-2) .

Only those called by Christ, and confirmed by the men and women who are truly serving the Lord, should serve as the officers of Christ’s Church. Elders must be wholly devoted to Christ and must diligently keep out all false worship. Leaders doing the work/ministry of Christ’s Church must serve strictly according to the Word of God.

Meditate on verse 18. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help us as a nation to tear down all places of evil worship as You cleanse each of our hearts first. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
