Text: 1 Samuel 28:1-25
A medium is a person who speaks to the spirit world, especially to the dead. In reality, they are either fakes or they are speaking to demons. Once a person dies, s/he enters into judgment (Heb.9:27), so they do not speak with anyone on earth.
In this story, Saul is trying to learn God’s will, but God is not communicating to him. So, Saul goes to a medium and asks to speak to Samuel, who had died recently. God sent Samuel to tell Saul that he (Saul) and his sons will die the next day.
Everything we need to know from God or about God has been given to us in His Word, the Bible. Do not go to mediums, witch doctors, spiritists etc. They serve the devil. By regular Bible reading, prayer, talking with mature godly people, and by God’s sovereign providence, you will not go astray. Above all these things you have Jesus at the Father’s right-hand interceding for you. Lastly, take comfort, God planned everything before the world was created (Act.4:28). He also planned for you from the time you were born (Jer 29:11)
Meditate on verse 7 and 9. What are you learning from these verses?
Our Lord and heavenly Father, I pray that You keep me fulfilled in You and hold and keep me from backsliding. Help me to faithfully preserve my testimony, O Lord. In Your Holy name, I have prayed. Amen.
