Text:Psalm141:1-10
Who holds you accountable? If you are growing in Christ, then you need good faithful friends who will hold you accountable. Why? As David is seeking the Lord, he knows that he needs help in doing what is right with his mouth and with his hands. In order for the Lord to set a “guard over his mouth”, he is willing to allow others to rebuke him if necessary. If hard questions and difficult rebuke are part of the process, then we who seek to walk with Christ will benefit; it is a true “kindness” of others to love us enough to tell us the direct truth, even when it hurts! That is what it
means to “speak the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15).

But accountability is also for the rest of the world. The “wicked” in this Psalm are held accountable, and even though they may not like it, they will agree that “my words were well spoken.” This is how a Christian can speak justice to the world around them. Once they are mature enough to handle accountability themselves, it is then a responsibility to use that principle effectively with others. But this can be dangerous! That is why we must pray as David does for the Lord’s protection as we confront others in the world with truth.

Meditate on verse 5. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Merciful Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray to You that all of us, believers, be accountable in what we think, speak and do; and guide me to be accountable to the body of Christ, Your Church O Lord. Amen.
