Text: Nehemiah 8:1-18
The book of the law of Moses (Probably the book of Deuteronomy) was read
to the people, as they gathered before Ezra. They stand, as a show of respect, then they bow to the ground, in submission to Yahweh, as He speaks through the Bible. The nation of Israel was a nation built by God through His word. God made promises to Abraham, gave the law through Moses and the prophets, and it is God’s word that reveals His saving grace and His Will to His people.

God’s Word is still the foundation for God’s people. Jesus said, “…I will build
my church…” (Mat.16:18, ESV), and He taught, whoever builds his life on the
foundation of His (Christ’s) Word is a wise builder (Mat.7:24). The foundation for the Church includes the doctrines that are also taught by Christ’s apostles.

In John 17:20 Jesus prays for those who would believe because of the word of the apostles (v.20), and in Ephesians 2:20, Apostle Paul teaches that the word of the apostles and prophets is the foundation of the God’s spiritual Temple, which is the Church. Those offices are now no more (the foundation is built once) but Christ’s word through them is still living in Scripture. Scripture is our foundation, it is our life!

Meditate on verses 5-6. What is God teaching you in these verses?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Your Word. Help me meditate on it every day and apply it to my life. Amen.
