Texts: Job 41:1-34
God now turns Job’s attention to the Leviathan (probably the crocodile). Like the hippo, the crocodile cannot be handled like an ordinary beast. If you try, you will never do it again (v.8)! Trying to handle God will be far more dangerous (v.10). Then there is an interesting statement in v26, no matter what a man might try, the Leviathan cannot be destroyed. In this book, it is Satan who cannot be destroyed by man, but God can do it, and He defeated the devil in the contest over Job. God sustained His servant.
In Genesis 3:15 God promised to send a Saviour who would destroy the works of the devil, the great serpent Leviathan (Gen.3:1; Rev.20:2). That Saviour is Jesus Christ. When He lived on earth, He did not give in to the devil’s temptations.
On the cross Jesus took our sin upon Himself and paid our death penalty. Satan thought he had won, but on the third day, Jesus broke the power of death and of the Leviathan, Satan. Jesus is now seated on the throne of God. If you trust that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection were for you, then you will be set free from the power of Leviathan and be with the Lord forever.
Meditate on verse 26. How is God encouraging you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank You for You have promised that even if the sword of the enemy reaches me it will have no effect. Amen.
