Text: 1 Kings 12:25 – 13:10
Jeroboam is now King of Israel, but he is afraid that the people, in returning to Judah to worship Yahweh in Jerusalem, will turn their allegiance back to Rehoboam. So he builds two statues, calves of gold, the very sin that almost destroyed Israel when they left Egypt (Ex.32). One was placed in the far north and one in the south, right at the border with Judah. His plan worked, and the people were content to worship these images. While the King was worshipping at the southern idol, a prophet spoke against the King, and the King was cursed.
But God then graciously restored him, although King Jeroboam never repented (1 King.13:33).
The King of God’s people must constantly shepherd people under him closer to God. King Jesus is doing that each day. Though we struggle and fail daily, Jesus has secured and guaranteed our salvation and He will bring us to the Father.
And when you have an opportunity, bring others with you, so that they also may know the gracious Shepherd King Jesus.
Meditate on verse 28. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You always lead me to meet the right people for advice. Amen.
