Text: Isaiah 64:1-12
When the people heard of God’s upcoming judgement, they were so disturbed.
They called upon the name of the Lord in repentance (vv. 8-12). With sin, one cannot approach God (v. 6) (Rom. 3:23). Our own best efforts are still covered with sin, the Bible is calling those efforts filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Here “filthy rags”, mean ladies’ menstrual cloth. Can you imagine that righteousness of your own, not of Jesus Christ, is like a used sanitary towel?

Our only hope is to put faith in Christ who is able to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (Rom. 3). Your good conduct cannot cleanse you. Note that as forgiven children of God, He will not reject our efforts to please Him. Meditate on verse 6. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, whose work on the cross cleansed my sins. Amen.
