Text: Ezekiel 10:1-22
“Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city”, (verse 2). Chapter 9 was painful enough with the immense slaughter and loss of life. But here it continues, for a Christ-like figure is told to scatter coals of fire given by Yahweh’s Angels. These coals were to spread fire and cause total destruction. The vivid image here is that of God speaking directly right from the Holy of Holies to send out destruction of an unprecedented scale.

But If God almighty is still present in the very centre of worship with His people, why the massive judgement? This is a picture of God’s purification. Scripture often uses fire not only for destruction but for renewal and cleansing. In short, the Lord will destroy what we consider to be precious to us, when it becomes an idol and a spiritually destructive force. He takes everything out of the way that stands between us and our intimacy with Him. He loves us that much as to pursue us with a holy love and passion! When you sense the Lord’s cleansing in your life, pray that you use this
precious experience to the fullest!

Meditate on verse 2. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you going to respond to it?

Our Lord and Almighty Father in heaven, may the Holy Spirit convict us of
any filthiness in Your Church, and renew us in Your service. In the name Jesus Christ we have prayed. Amen.
