Text: Ezekiel 37:1-14
The LORD (Yahweh) gave His prophet a vision of an amazing thing God was going to do for His people. Israel had been cast out of the land by God; destroyed, exiled, scattered by the nation of Babylon. Their rejection of Yahweh as the only true God proved they were dead spiritually. Then when they were exiled from God’s presence, it was as if they were twice dead. There was no possibility that they could restore themselves or give themselves life. But when God’s Word was preached (vv.4,9-10) God the Holy Spirit, speaking through His prophet, brought life to His people and raised them into a great army.
If the Holy Spirit wants to convert us, Scripture tells us the message of Christ is the tool He uses to bring us from death to life (Rom.10:14-17).
Before any of us was given spiritual life, we were like the very dry bones in Ezekiel’s vision, and there was nothing we could have done to change that. We were not even capable of asking God for help, nor were we able to desire help. We were spiritually dead, and there is nothing dead people can do – nothing! But God has transformed us from spiritual death into life. We must become increasingly more dead to the life we
used to live without God, and live for righteousness, as those who are transformed into the people of God.
Meditate on verse 10. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to witness for Your glory so that many who are dead in sin will receive eternal life. Amen.
