Text: Zechariah 2:1-13.
Zechariah receives another vision. At this point in the history of Jerusalem
the walls were still broken down. Nehemiah will lead the repairs in the next
generation. But for now, Yahweh makes great promises about the city. At some point in the future, the city will be like an unwalled village (v.4), which implies a large population and safety. That’s because Yahweh Himself will be a wall of fire (v.5), so His people will be safe from all harm. In that day many other nations will join themselves to Yahweh and become God’s people (v.11) with God dwelling in their midst.
At the moment we do not see that with our eyes, but God daily brings His
chosen ones from every tribe, language, nation, and people. The number will be so great that it will be un-countable (Rev.7:9), and God will dwell among us forever. This is only possible because Jesus Christ accomplished everything necessary for it to happen. Jesus lived perfect righteousness for us, His people.
He paid our death penalty, His resurrection brings us back from our exile in sin, He prays for us continuously, and He will return to bring us home, where we will be safe with God forever.
Meditate on verse 13. How are you going to respond to it?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let Your name be revered and honoured
in our homes, churches, and communities. Amen.
