Text: Leviticus 16:1-34
The life of the flesh is in the blood. Therefore, Israelites were forbidden from eating blood as respect for life (Gen. 9:4-6). Also it is the blood that marked the atonement for souls. The blood of an animal sacrificed would symbolically redeem the life of the sinner; the blood would save the sinner. The blood of animals was a shadow of what was to come! It was pointing to the Messiah’s blood.
The blood of animals in Old Testament pointed to the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us from all sins once and for all (1 John 1:7). The shedding of Jesus’ blood does not need repetition like that of blood of
animals in the past. You are washed in the blood of Jesus Christ by faith.
Meditate on 1 John 1:7. How are you going to respond to it?
Gracious Father in Heaven, I earnestly beseech You to wash me and cleanse me from all my sins, as I transition to the New Year 2022. In the precious name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ, I have prayed.
Amen.
