Text: Ezekiel 28:1-26
In verses 11-19 we read another lamentation for Tyre, this time for the King, in particular. But in verse 13, we read that this King existed in the Garden of Eden.
Further, in verse 14, he is described as a cherub, which is a very great, unique creature, a covering/guardian servant of God. Most scholars agree that the cherub of this chapter is Satan. Verse 17 states that he became prideful because of his beauty and wisdom, and this pride brought about his downfall.

Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, intentionally “emptied Himself” (Phil.2:7) of His majestic splendor, not of His God-hood nor of His divine attributes. He willingly became a lowly human servant to His Father and to us, even to the point of undergoing a horrifying, humiliating death. We who belong to Christ must likewise serve. We have absolutely no reason to boast about ourselves. We are only creatures. All we are or have is determined by God alone. Our boasting should be in Christ alone.

Meditate on verse 17. What is that special thing on you that makes you proud? Height, beauty or size? Repent.

My Lord and heavenly Father, whose love endures forever, I thank You for the beauty and earthly things You have given me, may these things be used to glorify You. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
