Text: Titus 3: 1-15

Christians are encouraged to obey the people in authority and also do good works (v.3). As a Christian, your allegiance is first to Jesus Christ and then to the government in power. It is our responsibility as Christians to obey the civil law. We are not above the law. We should be good examples in doing good so that we are the salt and light wherever we are (Mat.5:13-16).

Let us follow Jesus Christ as our good example. He allowed Himself to be baptized by John the Baptist (Mat. 3:15) in order to fulfill all the righteousness. Jesus had no sin to repent of in order to be baptized; but He obeyed in order to identify with the people. You as a Christian, need to set the pace in obeying authority; especially if such obedience embodies no sin.

Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help both our spiritual and civil leaders to enact good laws so that by obeying them we will be honoring You. Amen.
