Text: Deuteronomy 25:1-19

As with many passages in the Scriptures before Christ, the one for today seems very cruel (vv.17-19). But we must remember that the geographical nation Israel of long ago (not today) used to be a picture of the eternal Kingdom of God. There will not be enemies in His Kingdom.

But we are not at that day just yet. In our present existence we deal with our enemies differently. Jesus said, “…Love your enemies … so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven…” (Matt.5:44-45-ESV). All of us were at one time enemies of God, but by His grace, through the message of Christ, He made us His children by uniting us to Christ. We are now called to tell others that same message. In a day yet to come, when God declares His final judgment, there will be no enemies of God or of His people. They will be cast away, and we will live in peace with the Lord forever.

Meditate on verses 17 – 19. What is God teaching you in these verses?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You destroy the means of causing harm to Your Church. Amen.
