Text: 1 Chronicles 24:1-31
In this chapter we see attention being given to the Levites, especially the
priests, in being assigned times for their Tabernacle service. There must always be a priest ministering before the Lord. In this continuous service the people are reminded of their constant need. Sin is ever present before the Lord, and it deserves His just wrath. But God, by His grace, has provided the office of mediator, the priests, who stand between God and His people presenting to God the animals killed as substitutes, which removed the sin-guilt of the people. However, the priests were sinful and died, and the exercise of their duties was only symbolic, just as the animals were symbolic. God’s people needed a perfect permanent priest and a perfect substitute.
Jesus is that perfect Priest and Substitute – the reality! He is perfectly righteous, and His priesthood is never-ending. He is seated at the Father’s right hand, the wounds from His death are always visible, and His work is accepted by the Father for us, forever. Please, trust Jesus to be your Saviour.
Meditate on verse 31. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, help me treat all people equally, to the glory of Your name. In the
name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
