Text: Isaiah 29:1-29
“Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! Add year to year; Let feasts come around”, verse 1-NKJV. The scenario in this chapter 29 is more or less that in chapter 22, this was when Jerusalem was under the siege. The word Ariel was a nick name for Jerusalem and it means “Lion of God” in the sense of that City’s strength. As a lion is a king of the jungle so was Jerusalem a king among cities. Also Ariel can mean “hearth of God” referring to an altar of burnt offerings where beasts offered for sacrifice were devoured or consumed by fire.

Despite its strength, Jerusalem is in trouble because of her iniquity. Her external outlook and the performance of rituals there year after year will not stop God’s judgment pronounced upon it. The Lord will punish Jerusalem with thunder and earthquake (v.6).

You may be blessed with material wealth and you are probably “a pillar” in your local church, but unless you repent the Lord will soon judge your actions. You can only escape the judgement by submitting to the Lord Jesus Christ. Receive and believe in Him and escape the pending judgement on you!
Meditate on verses 22-23. How are you going to apply them to your life?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I will always revere Your great name because of Your creation, the seen and unseen. Amen.
