Text: Exodus 20:1-26.
It is important to note that the children of Israel had come from Egypt, a country where Egyptians worshiped many idols as gods, and each god had its area of jurisdiction. Therefore they needed to be reminded outright that there is only One True God. This is the reason that this commandment is number one on the list of the Ten Commandments handed over to the Israelites through Moses. Today many people have embraced idol worship, both overly and covertly.
Money and riches have become gods for many. Yet the Bible advises us to seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness and the rest that we crave for would be added to us (Matt. 6:33).
Meditate on verses 1-17. How are you going to apply them to your life?
My heavenly Father, teach me how to obey and apply Your Commandments. Amen.
