Text: Jeremiah 8:1-12
The Lord promises to expose the bones of the Kings of Judah, the princes,
the priests, the prophets and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem because of their idol worship (v. 1). It was a custom in those days that the conquering army would destroy and ransack tombs to get treasures but also to humiliate Jews by exposing bones of prominent people in the open as a sign to show that their gods were superior to their One true God (v.2). Coincidentally, this would also be punishing the idol worshipers posthumously by exposing their bodies to the gods: sun, moon and stars that they worshiped yet these gods could not protect them.
In sin, our bodies too will not be dignified. Turn to God from sin through His Son, Jesus Christ; otherwise, time will come when you will desire death rather than life (v.3).

Meditate on verse 3. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Faithful and ever forgiving Father, I thank You for giving me a second chance to repent. I surrender my life to You. And pray that this nation does likewise. In the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I have prayed this. Amen.
