Text: Nehemiah 1:1-11.
“As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven,”
verse 4. Fasting and prayer should go together. According to Wayne Grudem, fasting has several benefits; first, fasting increases our sense
of humility and dependence on the Lord. Second, it allows us to give more attention to prayer. Third, it is a good exercise on self discipline for
as we refrain from eating food which we would ordinarily desire, it also strengthens our ability to refrain from sin to which we would otherwise be drawn.
Reflect on verse 4, what is God teaching you in this verse and how are you going to apply it to your life.
Father, help me to develop the discipline of fasting so that I may subdue my body as You increase in me. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
