I thank God almighty for giving me an opportunity to serve and minister to His people in Mulago orthopedic ward. It was my first time to visit the ward and also participate in outreach ministry. I found it a bit challenging because I had to communicate in luganda which am not that very good at.
However, it was a lovely and touching experience for me and the patients, some of the patients had no care taker besides the ward nurse. There was this one particular patient. The nurse told us he had been admitted the day before. He had no one to take care of him. He had no bed sheets. (I can only imagine in addition to the pain he was going through, he had to sleep through the cold night with no covers). He had no clothes besides the dirty ones he was putting on and when we talked to him and shared the few things we had carried, he was filled with joy and surely blessed.
I believe as a church as the youth ministry we should get out of our comfort zone and reach out to the needy in hospitals, prisons, schools for those with special needs, UPE schools and so on. We need to avail ourselves as youth to let God’s love flow through us to His people through giving, sharing God’s word and prayer because for me the church out door outreach to those patients was an eye opener. To the fact that, in that little time, God can use us to bless and change some one’s life. It’s written in Hebrews 13:16 ‘Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God’
I really thank God that I was part of this ministry I was surely blessed.
