Text: Matthew 6:1-14.
“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward,” verse 2. (ESV). Do not seek your own glory and honor but in everything meekly seek to glorify God. Do not look for approval and commendation from men, only God who sees the intensions of the heart will reward your good deeds. Remember your good deeds will never contribute
anything to your salvation in any way. Your salvation is complete by Christ’s death on the cross.
Reflect on verse 2, have you in any way been trapped by the sin of hypocrisy? You need to be alert otherwise it will come, for example, through donating to the building projects or caring for the vulnerable. Why do you give? To be a pillar? Let the Holy Spirit guide you. How are you going to apply verse 2 to your life?
Heavenly Father, thank You for the resources You have given me.
Give me the wisdom on how to distribute to some of Your people.
Guide and guard me against hypocrisy. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
