Text: James 1:19-27
This is another passage about the importance of Scripture in the Christian’s transformed life. The writer, James (Jacob in the Greek language) was the physical brother of Jesus. James begins by encouraging his readers to receive God’s Word, humbly, because it is God’s Word that brings salvation. James then gives the necessary exhortation to his followers to be more than just hearers of Scripture but to do what Scripture teaches.

For centuries God’s people heard the words of the prophets, but they refused to do what they heard. As a result, God brought enemies against them to destroy their nation and send the people into exile.

This exhortation is still vital for us to obey, so that we can live that transformed life. Many people go into the churches on Sundays, they listen to Scripture read, and some of the pastors will give good sermons.

But many people will hear about their sin and condemnation, and they will hear that Jesus is the Saviour and how He saves. But so many people will not do what they hear, they will not confess their sins and repent of them, and they will not trust Jesus for their salvation. It would be like looking into a mirror and then forgetting what you saw.

Dear Reader, do you see your sin and its danger from God? Please, run to Jesus and ask for His forgiveness.

Meditate on verse 22. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, the Lord of heaven and earth, in the name of Jesus Christ, enable me to apply Your Word to my life. Amen.
