Text: Ecclesiastes 11:1-10
Every believer should acknowledge that success is in the hand of God. But we
should also acknowledge the necessity of hard work. A person should never say:“since God is the One who provides everything, I do not need to work; I will just wait.” Thinking like that would be like saying, God provides babies, so I do not need to have sexual relations. That is not how God does His work of providence. God’s designed rules for how life is to be lived, and through these rules He provides for His creatures.
No one knows what God has planned for us, but for sure, not working gives nothing. These verses are using farming as an illustration to instruct us about how God provides for us. A farmer will plant several different kinds of crops. We must plan and try different things. Perhaps some plans will fail, but others will succeed. This principle also can be applied to those who will not do anything until they are certain of the result. It’s good to investigate, but do not let fear or uncertainty keep you from moving forward. God will not abandon you. Your work will be as worship when you are diligent and trust the Lord.
Meditate on verse 6. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me work hard trusting that You will honor my labour. Amen.
