Many people across all sectors of life seek for promotion. The disciples John and James went to Jesus to seek for promotion when Jesus finally takes over the kingdom. The psalmist however reminds us that God is in control of our lives and our promotions. The word used for promotion means desire of self- advancement which cannot gain for us anything except if it is based on the fear of the Lord. Leaders should stop their proud confidence in self and begin to trust God through prayer for godly promotion.

Success does not depend on human skill, power or the situation but on God alone. Suc- cess does not depend on human alliances either from the family, friends or from the relatives but from God alone. Isaiah 44:6 reminds us that God is the first and last, the be- ginning and the end. He is from eternity to eternity and from everlasting to everlasting. God is the creator of the universe and he owns everything. He brings kings into power, exalts them but also dismisses them or puts them down. Mat 24:23 reminds us about the preeminence of Jesus Christ who cannot be compared to any other god. Every abil- ity that we have is from God and should be taken with humility and gratitude. Kings are supposed to serve God’s purpose and the people entrusted to them.

Promotion is a gift from God and the work of his hands. If we do it ourselves without the power of God we fail, hurt ourselves or others. The Psalmist gives more reason to trust God with our promotions. First of all, we are encouraged to have thankful hearts no matter the situation because God is able and his works are great.

God is also portrayed as one who judges with equity. Isaiah 33:22 tells us that for the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our law giver, the Lord is our king, he will save us. God knows the hearts of men and women, there is nothing hidden from him. He positions us in accordance with his plan.

James 4:12 states that There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is to save and destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, and our king to the Holy One of Israel (Psalm 89:18). All these scriptures remind us about the self-sufficiency of God and our inability to challenge God’s divine power and appointment.

Every follower of Jesus Christ who desires to ascend to higher levels should remember to seek God in prayer. God owns offices and positions and we need to trust him not only for positions here but also in heaven. In Mathew 6:33, reminds us to seek God with all his righteous and all other things will be added including promotions. These summaris- es our eternal journey which many of us know. Many times we look at big things but not beneficial for the kingdom of God. Let our leadership here on earth prepare us for eternity. As we serve we need to be reminded that promotions on earth will not last but there is an eternal promotion to glory which will last forever.

May God bless you.
