Text: Zechariah 5:1-11.
When Zechariah sees the giant scroll, representing God’s Word, he is told that it is a curse going out over the land of Judah, God’s own people, to those
who continue in unrighteousness (Deut.28:15). The basket (about 22 litres) contained a woman who represented spiritual adultery, idolatry. The basket
was taken to Babylon/Shinar and left in a temple. This is symbolic that those
who belong to God’s people, but do not follow in His commands, will be cast
away from Him, back to the land of their captivity.
The same warning is upon all of us today. We who belong to God’s people,
and yet do not walk in His ways, will be cast away from Him. Hopefully, we
all see our great and continuous failings and sins. We should acknowledge
that we deserve condemnation, and we cannot redeem ourselves. We need a Saviour. Jesus Christ is that Saviour. Trust that He accomplished righteousness for you, that He paid your sin punishment, and that you will be saved from condemnation, if you trust Him and what He did to save you (Rom.8:1).
Meditate on verse 8. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, thank You for lifting the weight of sin from me. Continue to guide me in Your ways. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
