Text: Zechariah 4:1-14.
The gold lampstand was part of the Temple. The priest was to keep the lamp
filled with olive oil and ensure that it was always lit. In this vision Zechariah sees a golden lamp being continuously fed by two olive trees. Scholars disagree about the meaning, but certainly vv.4-6 explains much of this question. In history the people were encouraged to continue re-building the Temple, which was for the world the light of God’s truth. For that work to be accomplished, it will require the grace of the Holy Spirit through His Word.

The lamp symbolized Christ, and in Him we have the light of life, the light of
the knowledge of God. Anything spiritual (meaning God-ward) can only be
done by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. Whether a person trusts Jesus for salvation, or pastors a church, or lives a godly life, it can only be done by the person and work of the Holy Spirit, just as it was for the people of Judah rebuilding the Temple. Work diligently, but trust the power of God the Holy Spirit (Phil.2:13) through His Word.

Meditate on verse 10. How are you going to apply it to life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me where I have despised what
seems to be small things; yet these are the very things You are pleased with.
Amen.
