Text: Luke 15:1-10
At that time, the Rabbis taught that God would forgive a sinner who earnestly sought Him. Now here, Jesus is teaching the people that it is God seeking for sinners. A shepherd was responsible for the welfare of the sheep and every one sheep was equally important. It was logical to leave ninety nine sheep, which were safe in their sheep fold and go looking for the one which was in danger of being attacked by wild animal or thieves.
Also it was a custom for Palestinian women to receive ten silver coins as their wedding gifts whose importance can be likened to a wedding ring today. Each coin was so important that to lose one was stressful. If one was lost and found, it was joyous moment. In all these two parables we see the importance of the salvation of one sinner. Every single person who comes to the Lord brings joy and celebration in heaven (v.10). Endeavour to look for one sinner every day and point him to the Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name given to us through whom we must be saved. Salvation is through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord (Acts 4:12).
Meditate on verses 6 and 9. What is the Lord teaching you in these verses? How are you going to apply them?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me the zeal to use every
opportunity to witness to the sinful in this world. Amen.
