Text: Obadiah
God is going to judge Edom because of several reasons: (1). Edom had rejoiced over the misfortunes of Israel and Judah, despite being occupied by close relatives (Gen. 25:19-26); (2). Edomites were proud because of their location which to them was unassailable by her enemies, and therefore gave them sense of self sufficiency (vv.1, 3, 4); (3). The Edomites were very wise people; however, this wisdom was that of the world but not of God (v.8). The Edomites were foolish because they ignored God; (4). Edomites never helped their relatives, Judah and Israel, at a time of their need; instead Edom helped in plundering them (vv.10-11). If you do not help God’s child, you are an enemy of God. It is sin to withhold help from someone in need (James 4:17).

So let us be careful not to be arrogant, proud and take advantage of others’ troubles and celebrate when children of God are suffering or even participate in inflicting pain on them. The enemy of a child of God is God’s enemy.

Meditate on verse 20-21. How are you going to respond to them?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for being my leader and my defender. Amen.
