Text: Amos 7:1-17
Two times Amos is confronted with visions of impending punishment upon God’s people (vv.1-6). In each case Amos would pray to God and He would relent. Does this mean prayers can change God’s mind? No! Otherwise, one would be suggesting that God can improve on Himself. Instead God causes us to pray according to His Will (Ezek.36:37). This is a very interesting topic, you can search and study more about it!
Prayer is key and we need always to pray for our nation. Later Amos is given the vision of a plumb line. A plumb line measures the straightness of the wall (v.7). A wall will at some point collapse if it is not straight. God wants us to be straight with Him but sin makes us crooked. It is the Word of God that works as a plumb line in us and makes us straight with God. With the help of the Holy Spirit whom you receive at the point you accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you will be able to apply God’s Word in your life.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give strength to our spiritual leaders to stand firm against all forms of threats from within and without the church. Amen.
