Text: Amos 3:1-15
The Lord laments that it’s Israel He has known (v.2). The Hebrew word for
“know” has several meanings, including sexual relations (Gen. 4). However,
here it denotes God’s Sovereignty in choosing or electing of Israel; God never chose Israel because they deserved special treatment; it was all by God’s grace (Deut.9:4-6). They never recognised this, instead pride over took them. You are not saved because you deserve it. It is all by God’s grace. This should humble you!
In order to emphasize that his words were coming from the Lord, Amos raised several questions (vv.3-6). In every question, the answer is clear. Surprisingly, even in anger God shows mercy to His children (v.7). The reason He would send the prophets was to warn His people. God will not ambush in orderto
punish you. He has been warning you about sin through, especially His word,
the Bible. Have you taken those warnings seriously or you are hard hearted?
You see the things you have known about God, especially the hatred for sin,
but you continue to swim in sin in total rebellion against God. Because God
loves, He warns you before He punishes you. Do not take His warnings lightly!
Meditate on verse 7. How are you going to apply it to your life?
My heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and kindness. Help me take Your warnings seriously as I apply Your Word to my life. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
