Text: Jeremiah 41:1-18
Earlier in Chapter 40:14-16) Johanan had warned Gedaliah of pending danger but Gedaliah took it lightly. Now the worst has happened to him (vv.2-3). He did not use information from his intelligence. Ishmael went ahead, using the same trickery, to kill those who had come to mourn the fall of Jerusalem (v.5).

Jeremiah had told the people to come to God, but they had refused. They are now in a state of anarchy; they do not have a king, nor God’s Law and they are not loyal to God (vv.4-9). Let us listen and practice what the Bible is teaching us! It teaches us serious warnings and we ignore them at our own peril. It is not helpful to read God’s Word without the leading of the Holy Spirit whom we receive at the point we receive Jesus Christ. Receive Christ today!

Meditate on verses 1-3. What is God teaching you in these verses? How are you going to respond to them?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me a heart of discernment and know how to choose true friends. Amen.
