Text: Jeremiah 36:1-32
God tells Jeremiah to write all the Words that God had told him against Israel and Judah, thinking may be if they hear the Words once again they would repent and the impending punishment would be averted (vv.1-3). And it would be read to them at a time of praying and fasting (v. 6), good timing! Their fast did not help, for the officials could not stand for the Word of God, there was too much complacency (v.19).
The King burned the scroll but could not burn the Word of God (v.23). He
wanted to kill Baruch and Jeremiah but the Lord hid them (v.26). Out of many, only three officials tried to resist the evil King (v.25). Jeremiah obeys the Lord to rewrite another scroll (v.28). In God’s work obedience is key. We should not get tired of doing good as we obey God’s Word (Gal. 6:9). Let us not be complacent, let us resist evil in our society under the banner of Christ.
Meditate on verse 8. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to read and teach Your Word to
the people so that it will set many free. Amen.
