Text: Jeremiah 35:1-19
For two hundred years the Recabites had obeyed their ancestors’ vow, by sharp contrast, while the children of God were breaking God’s covenant (vv.13-17).

God used Jeremiah to test the Recabites with wine to show their commitment.
It is important to note the contrast between the Recabites and God’s children:
(1). The Recabites kept their vow with their fallible human leader, yet the
children of God broke their vows with their infallible divine leader;
(2). While Jehonadab told his family ONCE not to drink and they took it seriously, God was ALWAYS telling His people to turn away from sin yet they did not obey;
(3). The Recabites were following a law that dealt with temporal issues yet Israel was refusing God’s Law which was of an eternal nature.

Meditate on verse 6. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me obey the leading of the Holy
Spirit moment by moment. Amen.
