Text: 1 Chronicles 18:1-17
In this chapter we read of David’s Kingdom continuing to expand under God’s gracious providence. The borders are far reaching, as was promised to Moses in Deuteronomy 1. We also read about some important military officers who are diligently serving David, working to secure the Kingdom for him. There is also mention of gold, silver, and bronze that was captured and brought back to Jerusalem. King David was gaining wealth, as well as victories.
This is the way the Kingdom of Christ is expanding even today. Although there are still places in the world that have not heard the message of Jesus, more and more are hearing it every day. As David used soldiers to extend his territories, so Jesus uses us to advance the Kingdom. The great desire of our hearts must be the service of Christ and the establishment of “outposts” “garrisons”, strong places for the advance of the Christ’s Church. You are already in the battle. By God’s grace, fight with all your energy and zeal, beginning with your own heart.
Meditate on verse 14. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me lead the people You give me to
lead with justice and equity. Amen.
