Text: 1 Chronicles 15:1-29
This was a very important day. The Ark of the Covenant of God’s grace, which represented Yahweh’s presence, contained the Ten Commandments, and was covered by the Mercy seat, was being brought into its permanent home in Jerusalem. There was great rejoicing with music and dancing, as the people moved toward the city. King David joined the celebration wearing only an ordinary garment, not the royal robes. Then when his wife saw him behaving this way, she was embarrassed and despised him. In 2 Samuel 6 we read that she tried to rebuke him, but he rebuked her in return. As a result, Yahweh kept her from having children.
Worship is something that touches every aspect of our lives, including eating and drinking (1 Cor.10:31). There are times for active jumping and rejoicing, as David and the people were doing (cf., Acts 3:8). But there are also times of serious, quiet, meditation (2 Sam.7:18; Ps.46:10; 1 Cor.11:27). What God has done for us in Christ is more than we can imagine. Let us worship Him with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind.
Meditate on verse 29. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Heavenly Father, forgive those who despise the worship of Your children. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
