Text: 1 Chronicles 11:1-47
As soon as we read that Yahweh put Saul to death (10:14), the very next words are that Yahweh gave the Kingdom to David – God gave the Kingdom. All things work according to God’s plan and hand. Then for most of this chapter 11 we read of the mighty soldiers who served David. Another important Bible principle is that God uses men to do His work. David needed good soldiers, but he trusted God (Psalm33:16-18).
For us, who belong to God’s grace, our King needs no soldiers, no weapons. King Jesus by Himself went against the mightiest enemy and crushed him! Though we are Christ’s soldiers, and are called into the battle (Eph.6:12), we are not needed.
He has graciously included us. And let us always remember that God is the
absolute Sovereign over all creation. As the early disciple prayed and confessed, [You do] “whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur.”
Meditate on verse 3. What is God teaching you in this verse?
My heavenly Father, the Lord of heaven and earth, give us godly leaders that follow Your Word. In the name of Jesus Christ we have prayed. Amen.
