Text: 1 Chronicles 6:1-81
The priesthood is an essential part of the Kingdom of God. When a person
needed to bring a substitute to pay for his sin penalty, it required a priest to
stand between the person and God. The priest slaughtered the animal (instead of the sinner), the priest brought the animal’s blood into the symbols of God’s presence, and then the person was forgiven, because something else paid the death penalty. That is the work of the priest. According to God’s law, only descendants of Aaron could be priests (Exod.28:1, 43). That is why it is important to have a genealogy of Aaron (v.49).
The only reason we have access to God is because we have Jesus as our great eternal High Priest. Priest Jesus not only stands between us and God, but He is the substitute that paid our death penalty, and it is His own blood that He brings into the reality of God’s presence. That is why we are accepted by God!
Thanks be to God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on verse 49. How are you going to apply it your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, cleanse me with the blood of Jesus Christ so that I can stand in the gap for my family. Amen.
